Lip Falls used to be a local secluded gem known only to locals, but recently the word has come out on Lip Falls being one of the best waterfalls in South East Queensland and especially the Gold Coast Hinterland. Take a drive to Beechmont in the Scenic Rim to explore this lovely spot. Lip Falls looks gorgeous in the rain season, but also offers an excellent swimming spot for a hot summer’s day.

Fantastic one hour return walk (3km medium grade walk) through the rainforest down to the Denham Falls. Also called Beechmont Rockpools. Park on road-side; walk through park. You will see the walk on left hand side (near donation box). The walk continues behind some properties before dropping down into back creek gorge. Beware, walking paths are steep and narrow next to deep gorges. Keep young kids under strict supervision, close to you, and on the path. Enjoy the nature.

Amazing views over the gorge while walking down to the swimming holes. Be sure to wear good shoes, take some drinking water and a little food. The descent into the gorge is quite steep, but definitely worth it. The first swimming pool you’ll approach is Lip Falls.

Further swimming areas and waterfalls are located above Lip Falls if you follow the ‘goat track’ up around the top of Lip Falls.

A visit to Lip Falls should be on every nature photographer’s itinerary when visiting the Scenic Rim. Lip Falls offer picturesque waterfalls ideal for long exposure photography. The colours of Lip Falls, the swimming pool, and its surroundings changes dramatically between day and night, and every season renders the same view a completely different masterpiece waiting to be captured.

Enter from Doncaster Drive, Beechmont.

No public toilet, no BBQ facilities, no rubbish bins. Please keep the area tidy and respect all flora and fauna in the area. Snake sightings are common, so please take care if you are one of the lucky ones to come across any.

This place is very sacred. We’ve spent many hours down in here and feel privileged to have this space in our region. Take a moment with your phone switched off. Dive under the cold water and float on your back, looking into pristine rainforest.
