The Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk is owned by Ian and Jennifer Moore who took over five years of planning and getting approvals finally opened the Skywalk in 2009. The Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk is a safe, high-tech, elevated steel structure enabling visitors to walk through the rainforest’s canopy. Along the way, sightseers enjoy a butterfly lookout area and catch glimpses of rockpools and waterfalls until they reach The Cantilever, a spectacular 40m long walkway, 30m above the valley, that offers magnificent views. The entire 1.5 km walk takes approximately 45 minutes at a leisurely pace taking into account pausing to view the points of interest and information along the way.
The construction of the Skywalk was very difficult as very large 120 ton cranes with booms up to 80 metres long had to lift the tower columns and 40m walkway sections up, over and then carefully down through the canopy into place.
Located at the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk Centre is the Rainforest Eco Gallery which showcases local rainforest animals, birds and reptiles. Inside there are various dioramas of Australian insects and butterflies, and a large aquarium with local water life. Information about local and indigenous Australian history can be found on large panels on the walls.
As well as the Eco Gallery, there is the Birdwing Cafe which offers a variety of decadent cakes, tartlets, slices, brownies and cheesecakes and includes a gluten-free selection, so no one needs to miss out. As you indulge in their delicious food and drink, relax on the deck overlooking the magnificent rainforest or just inside the Birdwing Cafe.
Take time to visit the Gift and Souvenir Shop, containing a selection of beautiful Australian souvenirs and mementos. There are rainforest educational books for the kids and a great range of t-shirts, caps and gift cards to remember Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk by, or to give as gifts.
There is plenty of car parks, making Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk easy and safe to access.
